ASSOCIATE FAMILIES

Associate Families in Brantford/Brant County share their homes and provide support and encouragement to adults with a developmental disability.

With the support of qualified staff, Associate Families provide all the benefits of a family setting.

Interested families are required to undergo a screening process, indluding a home review and reference checks.

Approved Associate Families receive a per diem remuneration.  There are opportunities for interested people to become full-time Associate Families or part-time Respite Families.

Once an Associate Family has been approved, careful matching and an introductory period occurs.

Associate Families tell us that their lives have been truly enriched through sharing their homes and lives.

What is an Associate Family?

An Associate Family is an individual or a family who provides a home for someone with a developmental disability.  An Associate Family will:

  • Support someone with a developmental disability to achieve his/her full potential
  • Find there are many rewards to their family life through this experience

What is a Home Sharer?

Any individual with a developmental challenge is eligible to be a Home Sharer in an Associate Family.  A Home Sharer will:

  • Want an opportunity to experience or maintain a family lifestyle
  • Be looking for an alternative to institutional, group home, or independent living or be seeking an alternative home from their own family

"Add a Life to Your Life"

  • As part of the approval process, a confidential home study by staff will be conducted through several meetings in your home
  • Once an Associate Family has been approved, careful matching followed by an introductory period will occur

The Associate Family Program is operated through Community Living Brant.  A placement will only occur when a mutual decision has been made by the potential Home Sharer, the Associate Family and Community Living Brant.  A service agreement is signed by all parties outlining responsibilities including a per diem.  Respite and training opportunities are provided.
