ASSOCIATE FAMILIES
Associate Families in Brantford/Brant County share their homes and provide support and encouragement to adults with a developmental disability.
With the support of qualified staff, Associate Families provide all the benefits of a family setting.
Interested families are required to undergo a screening process, indluding a home review and reference checks.
Approved Associate Families receive a per diem remuneration. There are opportunities for interested people to become full-time Associate Families or part-time Respite Families.
Once an Associate Family has been approved, careful matching and an introductory period occurs.

What is an Associate Family?
An Associate Family is an individual or a family who provides a home for someone with a developmental disability. An Associate Family will:
- Support someone with a developmental disability to achieve his/her full potential
- Find there are many rewards to their family life through this experience
What is a Home Sharer?
Any individual with a developmental challenge is eligible to be a Home Sharer in an Associate Family. A Home Sharer will:
- Want an opportunity to experience or maintain a family lifestyle
- Be looking for an alternative to institutional, group home, or independent living or be seeking an alternative home from their own family

- As part of the approval process, a confidential home study by staff will be conducted through several meetings in your home
- Once an Associate Family has been approved, careful matching followed by an introductory period will occur
- On-going professional support is provided to the Associate Family and Home Sharer
The Associate Family Program is operated through Community Living Brant. A placement will only occur when a mutual decision has been made by the potential Home Sharer, the Associate Family and Community Living Brant. A service agreement is signed by all parties outlining responsibilities including a per diem. Respite and training opportunities are provided.
